Indian Ocean, Maldives and ranging east to southern Sumatra. Replaced further east by its sibling Pseudanthias dispar that occupies th same shallow habitat along reef edges. Males are recognised by the red caudal fin and red spot at the base of pectoral fin. Females are plain orange with pinkish lines running from behind eye to pectoral-fin base. Length to 90mm.
