Hi Fin Checker Hawk

Indo-West Pacific, widespread in Western Pacific and reported from a few locations in the Indian Ocean, west to Mauritius. Deep coastal and inner reef drop-offs, usually at depths of over 30m, but reported from a depth range of 15-65m. It has been photographed on a number of occasions. A beautifully marked species, but looks more grey in deep water. Best identified by the white membrane of the 3rd spine of the dorsal fin and its blotched pattern on the body. A small species, reaching about 40mm in total length.
