Two Tone Wrasse

Widespread West Pacific, ranging to sub-tropical zones, but Australian and eastern New Guinea form differs in colour. Coastal reef slopes and along drop-offs on the bottom of large caves. Usually seen singly. Australian juveniles white with black lines that continue to caudal fin. Indonesian form with yellow tail and stripes that fall well short of caudal fin. Adults with grey or blue-grey head with colour fading into light yellow about halfway along. Length to 12cm.
