Everyone knows the Aussie Great Barrier Reef but what about the second largest barrier reef?

The Mesoamerican Barrier Reef, or the Mayan Reef, is in the Caribbean Sea and is over 1000km long, stretching from Isla Contoy at the tip of the Yucatán Peninsula down to Belize, Guatemala and the Bay Islands of Honduras.

One off the most special things about this reef is that it is home to four types of endangered sea turtles including the West Indian Manatee.

Over the last 5 years there has been a massive amount of work done to help the reef with 1.9km of artificial reef added in the hope of giving a new area for corals to grow.
