Velvet Dwarf Parrot-Red Patch

South Pacific, Great Barrier Reef to Pitcairn Group, but some geographical variations may represent separate species. Occurs in lagoons and outer reef habitats. Usually in small groups of females with fewer males when feeding above the sea bed on zooplankton. Juveniles on rubble substrates which stay close to the sea bed. Males are readily identified by their distinctive colours. Length to 10cm.
