Mum and Dad Help Baby Reef Fish Adapt to Global Warming
Maio . 31 / 2018

Researchers from the ARC Centre of Excellence for Coral Reef Studies (Coral CoE) and the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) have found that reef fish can inherit, from their parents, the tools to adjust to a warming ocean.

When spiny chromis (Acanthochromis polyocanthus) were subjected to increased water temperatures, their offspring were better able to cope with higher temperatures by maximising oxygen consumption and energy use.

This may allow populations of fish to adapt to increased water temperatures caused by global warming in the future.
