Western PacificCoastal reefs with deep drop offs, usually in large groups feeding just off the wall in the current at night. The single dorsal fin readily identifies this species. The light-organ can be covered by a flap of skin. Almost never seen during the day, except in very dark parts of ship-wrecks or caves. Rises from deep water on dark nights to shallow depths. A small species which is easily maintained in aquaria, however, it is extremely sensitive to light level changes or bright light.
